camping near San Diego

On our quest for a warm beach, we went farther south this year to San Diego.  It was a long drive, but the kids did well and we loved our time there.  We got a new tent to fit our growing family. It is an easy up style which really can be set up in under 10 minutes (they claim 2, but that must be the professionals racing to see what the minimum time was they could put on the box.) The ground was hard, but otherwise we were comfortable.
We had a little fire to cook over and roast our marshmallows.
It was a beautiful campsite with trees for shade and nice neighbors.
The beach was a short drive away.  It was warm enough to play in the sand, but not too hot. There was a nice breeze. We built sand castles and a crocodile.
Lily had fun feeling the warm sand.
Mark almost went into the ocean, but it was still too cold. (Maybe next year we'll need to get our passports and drive farther into Mexico) ha ha
I did go in. It wasn't too bad, but I did get stung by jellyfish, luckily only a mild stinging variety.

We also went to the San Diego zoo.  The exhibits were amazing. We stayed all day and had a great time.

We went to a maritime museum one morning.  We toured the boat from Master and Commander of the Other Side of the World (behind us)
 and old Soviet Sub

and the oldest tall ship still in operation.

We had a wonderful vacation.
