Since there are no Thanksgiving celebrations here, all the shops starting putting up Christmas decorations after Halloween. As November progressed we saw more and more Christmas lights and candies on sale. So we decided to decorate a little early (the Mon. before Thanksgiving). Why not enjoy the Christmas tree a little longer? (Don't worry, they don't skip the turkey--turkey is the traditional Christmas dinner, and ham is saved for new years)
On Thanksgiving Edinburgh started their Christmas festivities by turning on all the lights downtown and opening the Christmas festivals, including a large ice rink, carnival rides, food and craft markets. There is even a German Christmas market. (Mark and I went to sample the traditional German Christmas foods--yumm!)
Since I have been home a lot (except when I am walking to the grocery store almost every day, and running other errands--who knew I could be so busy and not be working!), I decided to make some Christmas ornaments this year. Here are a few.

Here are some pictures of our decorated flat. Our tree may seem skinny (it is) but it is 6 British feet tall (somehow the British use feet, but their feet are not quite the same as US feet?). We put the tree on our windowsill so the neighbors can enjoy it, to make it look taller since our ceilings are about 12 feet high, and because there wasn't much floor space anywhere. We like looking at it there.
